Requirements for a marriage license

  1. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. You cannot marry in Nebraska if you are under 17. Parental consent is required for applicants who are 17 or 18 years of age. The parental consent forms are available at the County Clerk’s office.
  2. Both applicants must appear together at the County Clerk’s office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
  3. Identification required:
    1. Photo ID (valid driver’s license from and U. S. state, Nebraska ID card) AND birth certificate or
    2. Passport AND photo ID
      (All documents will be in English or translated by a certified court translator)
  4. Provide the full names and birthplaces of the bride and groom.
  5. Provide the full names and birthplaces of both parents. (including maiden names)
  6. The bride and groom shall provide their Social Security Numbers, if they have one. Applicants who do not have a Social Security Number must complete a form provided by the Clerk asserting they do not have a Social Security Number.
  7. If there were any previous marriages we will need to know how they ended (divorce, annulment or death) and the date the divorce was final or the date of death. If there is a previous divorce, a new license will not be issued and you cannot remarry until at least six (6) months and one (1) day have passed from the date the Decree was signed by the judge and filed with District Court.
  8. Marriage Licenses are good for one year from the date of issuance. Therefore, they have to be married within that year or they need to apply again.
  9. A couple may apply for their license in any county in Nebraska and use it to be married in any Nebraska county.

To be married by the County Court Magistrate you may call the County Court to schedule an appointment.

You may make application for a Marriage License at the County Clerk’s office, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

To receive a certified marriage license you will need to send the following information and a $9.00 check or money order:

  • Name of Applicant #1
  • Name of Applicant #2
  • Month/Year of marriage

(You must have received your marriage license in the County for us to send you a certified copy.)

Fees

Vital Records – Marriage Certificate

The fee for a marriage license is $25.00.

A Certified Copy of a Marriage Record is $9.00.
